Department of Medical Biochemistry
The department of Medical Biochemistry was started in 2014 as part of the founding basic sciences departments of the medical school at Mount Kenya University.
The academic staff in the department teach a variety of courses for medical students in the MBChB programme as well as for bachelor’s and master’s students of other programmes in the college of health sciences including pharmacy, clinical medicine and nursing.
Scientific research activities have been initiated in the department and currently there are projects in the areas of medical enzymology, neglected tropical diseases. The common goal of research in the department is to act as a link between basic medical sciences and clinical medicine.
Plans are at an advanced stage to launch the first curriculum in the department to offer a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry.
